What is Short Term Accommodation?

Short Term Accommodation or STA is funding for support and accommodation for a short time away from your usual home. It covers the cost of your care in another place for up to 14 days at a time. You might have a short stay with other people, or by yourself. It’s often funded when your usual carers aren’t available, or for you to try new things. How is Short Term Accommodation Funded?

Usually, NDIS participants receive up to 28 days per year of Short Term Accommodation funding. This funding sits within the Core Supports budget of your plan.

Who can access Short Term Accommodation funding?

Eligible NDIS participants can access Short Term Accommodation for reasons such as:

  • A change in circumstances, or a crisis situation that puts the person at risk of homelessness or being prematurely placed into an aged care facility.
  • To receive capacity building and/or independent living support.
  • For carers’ respite, if your carer has been hospitalised or if support staff are on leave. For a holiday in a different setting.
  • If you are waiting for home modifications. Recovering from an illness.
